ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵyard Public Use

ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵyard Public Use Policy & Procedures

ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ Independent ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵ District permits public use of school facilities by non-school groups for educational, recreational, civic, or social activities, when these activities do not conflict with school use or Board Policy. AISD schoolyards are open to the public outside of school hours and each campus will maintain at least one gate open to the community. Campus staff will lock all gates during school hours.

AISD school campuses do not have the trained staff, budget, or capacity to manage school yards as parks during non-school hours. To keep these spaces open for community use outside of school time, we ask all visitors to help maintain a clean and safe environment for our students and staff. The District may close such outdoor facilities to the public, on a scheduled or unscheduled basis, for maintenance or other purposes, as necessary.

Persons or groups using school facilities shall: Conduct their business in an orderly manner. Abide by all laws and policies, including but not limited to those prohibiting the use, sale, or possession of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and firearms and the use of tobacco products on school property. Make no alteration, temporary or permanent, to school property, including signage, without prior written consent from the Superintendent.

If ongoing issues arise or the following rules are violated, the schoolyard may be temporarily closed for 2 weeks. If issues persist, it may be subject to a longer period of closure.

Warning and Closure System

  • Signs: The school will post a yellow warning sign if they experience repeated violations of the schoolyard use rules, signaling that the schoolyard is at risk of closure. If the issue persists, the schoolyard may post a red sign indicating it is closed for public use.
