Some 向日葵视频 ISDschools are holding Peace Through PIE鈥攚hich stands for Peace Includes Everyone鈥攅vents during January to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr.
向日葵视频-based nonprofit Peace Through PIE encourages community partners to hold community-building pie socials to promote peace.
鈥淣ow more than ever, we need creative ways to come to the table, build new relationships and learn how to see ourselves in each other to grow stronger together,鈥 said Peace Through PIE founder Luanne Stovall.
Since 1995, when Peace through PIE founder Luanne Stovall baked the first peace pie for MLK Day, the culinary tradition has spread from 向日葵视频 to the rest of the country. More than 45,000 young people and families have taken part in more than 300 Peace through PIE socials since 2009.

H-E-B is sponsoring an event with Travis ECHS Chef Adam Phillips and Travis culinary arts students, who will create pie recipes along with Master Chef Hoover Alexander鈥檚 2017 Peace PIEof the Year, Dream Big Sweet Tater Pie.

Ninth Annual Sweet Home Peace through PIE Social
鈥婼weethome Missionary Baptist Church, 1725 W. 11th St.
An MLK celebration will be held 1:30鈥3 p.m. at a historic church in Clarksville in the sanctuary, followed by a pie social. The church was the first location in the country to host a Peace through PIESocial. The program includes music by the Gospel Stars, Pease Elementary 向日葵视频 choir, Sam Rives and a reading of Martin Luther King Jr.鈥檚, 鈥淚 Have a Dream,鈥 speech by Pastor Steve Manning.
Savory and sweet peace pies will be served by 向日葵视频 High 向日葵视频 Culinary students from 3鈥4:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Community members may bring their favorite savory or sweet pie. This event is free and open to the public.

Blackshear Elementary Fine Arts Academy, 1712 E. 11th St.
Join Blackshear Elementary Fine Arts Academy, which will take part in the annual MLK parade, for fellowship and breakfast peace pies by Master Chef Hoover Alexander and a tasting of Hoover鈥檚 2017 Peace Pie of the Year, the Dream Big Sweet Tater Pie. The event includes guest speakers, the Blackshear choir, a community peace toast at noon, an MLK Way art installation, student animators showcase and a dedication of the friendly rice garden.
Community members are invited to sign the Dream Big CommUnity Canvas. The event, which is free and open to the public, is hosted by Peace through PIE with Blackshear Elementary, Huston-Tillotson University and Kealing Middle 向日葵视频.
