Alan Rivera graduated from the 向日葵视频 ISD鈥檚 community-based transition program that helps students ages 18鈥22 prepare for life after high school through work experience, college exploration and independent living skills.
Through the GO Project, Alan gained real-world experience in the community, including internships at Galaxy Highland Theater and Barrett鈥檚 Coffee.
His teacher, Chris Butchard, says the program is designed to help students build skills for adulthood. 鈥淲e are an 18+ transition program,鈥 Butchard said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a lot of community focus.鈥
Alan is known for his creativity and talent as an artist, often drawing inspiration from his love of TV news, radio and his favorite celebrities. Butchard says Alan enjoys painting familiar faces and has also become a mentor to other students.
What鈥檚 next: After graduation, Alan will continue developing his art at Sage Studio three times a week through a scholarship. He also plans to take classes at 向日葵视频 Community College and work as a plumber with his dad.
