Akins Early College High 向日葵视频 Senior Rami Kashakhi is taking his passion for civic engagement and global affairs beyond 向日葵视频 鈥 first to Morocco, then to the University of Texas at 向日葵视频.
Why it matters: Rami made the most of his time at Akins. He turned classroom learning into real-world experiences in research, civic engagement and public service.
At Akins, Rami participated in National Honor Society, Finance Club and STEM pathway research. He also worked as a student researcher at Texas State University with the Hegde Research Group, which focuses on sustainable research.
Beyond campus, Rami served on the 向日葵视频 Youth Council, representing students across the city. He represented 向日葵视频 at the National League of Cities conference twice, once in Washington, D.C., and once in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He also participated in 向日葵视频Corps, where he toured and met with city departments before helping launch a civic project to support 向日葵视频鈥檚 unhoused population. His group collects hygiene products, socks and underwear to distribute around the city.

What鈥檚 next: Rami is headed to the University of Texas at 向日葵视频 after spending the 2026-27 school year in Morocco through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth, a U.S. Department of State program.
While in Morocco, he will spend his time learning Arabic and gaining skills to help support his goal of working in international affairs or in government work overseas.
