AISD Participates in SXSWedu

The ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓÆµ Independent ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓÆµ District is pleased to once again partner with SXSWedu. Education’s most energetic and innovative leaders from all backgrounds of the learning landscape including teachers, administrators, university professors, business and policy leaders converge each March at the SXSWedu Conference & Festival. The four-day event is a platform for the growing SXSWedu community to connect, collaborate, create and change how we teach and learn.

This year's conference is from March 3 to March 6.  to learn more about the schedule and program. For an overview of how AISD is participating in the conference, please see below. 

Featured Session: Social Emotional Learning Can Change the World

Teaching students to manage urges helps them to behave in socially acceptable and productive ways. Join us as the nations’ leaders in the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) movement discuss how schools across the country are preparing students to thrive in their future education, careers and adult lives through the implementation of SEL programs. Panelists will also examine how SEL increases student engagement, decreases discipline referrals and increases academic performance.

Coverage of SXSWedu by AISD student reporters

Students from AISD schools, including Anderson, Bowie, Crockett, LASA, Reagan and Travis, will attend and cover the conference. The student journalists will cover SXSWedu for their schools’ student newspapers and the district’s website, social media channels and event blog. The district's Department of Communications and Community Engagement is working with SXSWedu and Compass Learning to create an opportunity for AISD students to secure press credentials to cover the event, including AISD-related speakers and the Education Expo.

This exhibit will include information on changes to graduation plans, including endorsement areas, and feature student performances and demonstrations, AISD career opportunities, and information on the district's Social Emotional Learning initiative. .

What’s going on in our local school districts? These Ed Expo speakers will update the community on everything from High ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓÆµ degree endorsements to counseling processes and parent-administration relationships.

Community Celebration

March 4, 7-7:30 p.m.
ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓÆµ Convention Center Exhibit Hall 4, NEXT Stage

Representatives of the ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓÆµ Energy Regional Science Festival will kick off this celebration by highlighting the works of local science fair winners in attendance. Immediately following, SXSWedu Featured Speaker, Jack Andraka will address the Ed Expo audience reflecting on his experiences as winner of the 2013 Intel International Science & Engineering Festival. Concluding the celebration will be ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓÆµ Superintendent of schools Meria Carstarphen speaking directly to Central Texas students and families.
