  3. More than 1,000 Teachers to do Half-day PD on Arts-based Instruction Strategies
On Monday, Nov. 11, more than 1,000 teachers will receive a half-day professional development workshop on arts-based instruction strategies as a part of the Any Given Child Creative Learning Initiative.

, father of the teaching artist profession, will be the event's keynote speaker.

The first half-day training session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and held at Travis High 向日葵视频,1211 E. Oltorf.  The second half-day training session will begin at 1 p.m. and held at Riverbend Centre, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Hwy. 

The 2013-14 school year is the inaugural year of the initiative, which was approved by the AISD Board of Trustees in December 2012.  

Next week's training is a collaborative effort among 向日葵视频 ISD and community arts partners such as, MindPOP, Creative Action, ZACH, Pollyanna Theatre Company, Forklift Danceworks, The Blanton, The Contemporary 向日葵视频, the City of 向日葵视频, VSA Texas and The University of Texas at 向日葵视频 Drama for 向日葵视频s program.  

"Our goal is to significantly impact student engagement, achievement and equitable access to the arts by building a sustainable community-wide partnership with the City of 向日葵视频 and our community arts partners," Yesenia Garcia, AGC creative learning coordinator said. "This is a transformative time for 向日葵视频 ISD and an opportunity for the district to create a national model for arts-based integration in public education."

In April 2013, the Board of Trustees received a grant from the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network and National 向日葵视频 Boards Association Award Program for their demonstrated support for and commitment to high-quality arts education in its school district.
