The College of Information and Computing (CIC) brings its extension program, the Out-of-School Youth (OSY) Information System and Learning Management System, to the first-ever USAID Grants Learning Summit. Represented by its program leader, Dr. Ivy Kim D. Machica, and one of its project leaders, Ms. Cheryl R. Amante, CIC is one of the fortunate educational institutions that received a grant from the USAID Opportunity 2.0 program.
The Grants Learning Summit, with the theme, 鈥淔rom Innovation to Integration: Building a Sustainable Future for Out-of-School Youth,鈥 is a two-day event from October 18-19, 2023 at Metro Manila under the USAID Opportunity 2.0 Program. An estimated 200 delegates from its wide range of partnered sectors, including higher education institutions, training providers, and NGOs, gather to highlight its respective USAID opportunity programs and policies that evoke dialogue towards unique innovations in providing education and opportunities to Filipino Out-Of-School Youth.
The CIC and USAID partnership was concurred after being one of the educational institutions that was granted the Strengthening Employment, Education, and Development Support for OSYA (SEEDS) Grant of USAID back in November 2021. Spearheaded by Dr. Ivy Kim D. Machica as the program leader and its project leaders, Engr. Jamal Kay B. Rogers and Ms. Cheryl R. Amante, CIC was able to design, develop, and implement an OSY Information System and Learning Management System that will improve the efficiency of service providers in the storage and repository of learning materials and activities, increasing the number of out-of-school youth to enroll and complete the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
The system’s implementation will reach 3,500 out-of-school youth in Davao City and will continue to grow as it reaches a wider array of beneficiaries. Despite the completion of the SEEDS grant, CIC continues to provide its technical skills by monitoring and maintaining the systems, including possible feature upgrades and security patches.
